East Granby Fire Department

The East Granby Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary is dedicated to supporting the fire department, their families, and the community through assistance during emergencies, fundraising efforts, and promoting volunteerism. Our mission is to strengthen community bonds and ensure the safety and well-being of East Granby volunteer firefighters.

The East Granby Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary (EGVFDA) was established in the late 1960s with the goal of supporting the town’s fire department and the broader community. Since then, the Auxiliary has played a vital role in providing essential services and supplies to firefighters working at fire scenes or accident sites. Beyond their emergency support, the Auxiliary also ensures that refreshments are available at planned events such as mutual aid fire department drills, live burns, the annual Fire Prevention Week Open House, and other departmental activities. To coordinate these efforts, Auxiliary members meet monthly to plan events and review ongoing projects.

The EGVFDA collaborates closely with the East Granby Volunteer Fire Department to raise funds through various initiatives that support both the department’s needs and the broader community. These initiatives include the annual golf tournament and bingo events, as well as the Fallen Firefighter Fundraiser, where red light bulbs are sold for homes in remembrance of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice. Additionally, the EGVFDA adopts families in need through East Granby Social Services, donates to the local playground building efforts, and has helped collect funds for families in the community who have experienced tragedy. The organization is dedicated to making a meaningful impact to our department members and their families. Donations are made in memory of past firefighters as well as supporting our fire department families during times of need. One significant initiative funded by these efforts is the Pete Ahlstrin Memorial Scholarship, awarded each year to a graduating high school student in East Granby who has demonstrated a commitment to community service and volunteerism.
